The key to product photography is making the product the focus using lighting effects DURING shooting (not post-processing!), contrast of focus and depth of field, and good scene setup and execution. Determining these items is crucial in planning for a successful shoot. You will never achieve the same look by Photoshop-ping it; in addition, the more you edit the photo post-process, the more degraded the photo becomes.

Whether it's hanging baskets or breakfast, the product needs to be clearly displayed and made the emphasis of the photo. Otherwise, what are you selling? Creating mood and romance is key in creating magazine photos. Notice that the models are never on display, they are atmosphere. Each and every detail needs to be set up with a specific purpose in mind! Things that may not even get noticed like clothing, hair, body positioning, and furniture placement matter.
